BCA Supports Nusantara Academic Award and Nusantara Writing Grant

Jakarta, April 5, 2021 – As the part of national financial system unit, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) never stops providing support to the beneficial aspects of Indonesian community. This time through Corporate Social Responsibility, BCA took part in an effort to preserve culture in Indonesia by supporting Nusantara Academic Award (NAA) and Nusantara Writing Grant (NWG) held by the Nusantara Institute, a college research institute and extra-campus study focus on the field of religion, culture, traditions, and local kingdoms study in Indonesia.

NAA, which has been held since 2019, is an annual national competition to select qualified master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation from all over Indonesia, while the NWG is a national competition to select qualified master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation proposal for students who have completed fieldwork process.

In 2021, there are around 115 master’s thesis and doctoral dissertations submitted by applicants from many local colleges and abroad. Meanwhile, NWG received 130 proposals submissions, both thesis and dissertations.

The selection process for the NWG and NAA is very tight from internal selection conducted by Nusantara Institute to select a number of shortlisted candidates who are eligible to be interviewed online (Zoom) by a team of panelists or judges consisting of scholars, academics, professionals (experts), and specialists related to the topic of thesis/dissertation, from outside Nusantara Institute.

This interview attended by public audience is intended to see the candidates’quality and ability in delivering their thesis/dissertation as well as in answering or responding to the questions from panelist team. Candidates who are invited to interview do not necessarily receive the award or the grant. It is later proven, some candidates did not pass the interview session.

The interview process to select candidates for 2021 NAA and NWG awardee is held in February and March. Before the interview session, the event is always opened first by the Director of Nusantara Institute, Sumanto Al Qurtuby, explaining the mechanism for the assessment, selection, and the details of NAA and NWG. Sumanto hopes that this event inspires young academics and researchers to continue to discover, explore, study, and preserve the culture of the Indonesian archipelago, especially through research and academic activities.

In addition, EVP CSR of BCA Inge Setiawati in her speech explained about BCA's commitment to preserve cultural diversity in Indonesian archipelago.

“Preserving and respecting diverse cultures in Indonesia is absolutely necessary considering that this nation is the largest archipelagic country in the world. BCA is committed to continue to support positive activities like this one. We believe that the support to the preservation of our culture will further strengthen the unity of Indonesia as our motto 'Bhinneka Tunggal Ika'," said Inge Setiawati.“We believe that each activity that has a noble purpose will definitely return to their original purpose. This is also the guidance for Bakti BCA (Community Service) to support this event until the final judging stage,” Inge concluded.
