Jakarta, 25 February 2025 – In an effort to support the preservation of the nation's cultural and historical heritage, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) has participated in an initiative by the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership’s Arts and Culture Institute (LSB) alongside PT Mix Production to present the film Djuanda Pemersatu Laut Indonesia. This biopic will be implemented as a mandatory curriculum in all schools under the Central Board of Muhammadiyah (PP Muhammadiyah), with the hope of building character and inspiring the younger generation to contribute to the progress of Indonesia.
The premiere of Djuanda Pemersatu Laut Indonesia was held at the Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta on Saturday (22/2). Several stakeholders attended to celebrate the launch of this historically significant film, including Djuanda Kartawidjaja’s grandson, Ismeth Wibowo, PP Muhammadiyah Chairman Irwan Akib, LSB PP Muhammadiyah Chairman Gunawan Budiyanto, Head of BCA Sub-branch Office in Yogyakarta Dovi Kurniawan, and BCA VP Endang Sri Kuncorowati.
BCA Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility EVP Hera F. Haryn stated “Understanding our nation's history is one way to foster a love for our homeland. Through the biopic Djuanda: Pemersatu Laut Indonesia, BCA and PP Muhammadiyah seek to portray Djuanda’s struggles in a modern work that is expected to captivate interest while reigniting nationalism among Indonesia’s younger generation. We present this film with the belief that the values embedded in history remain relevant as a foundation for shaping the character of future generations.”
Djuanda Pemersatu Laut Indonesia highlights the life of Djuanda Kartawidjaja, a historical figure from his youth to his role as the declarer of the “Djuanda Declaration,” a milestone that clarified Indonesia’s territorial boundaries. Many prominent figures were involved in the making of this film, including Ery Isnanto and Adhit Jikustik. Ery Isnanto, Djuanda Pemersatu Laut Indonesia’s film director is known for his ability to blend conventional filmmaking systems with Unreal Engine technology commonly used in Hollywood. The entire musical composition for the film was entrusted to Adhit Jikustik, a musician with 26 years of experience in the Indonesian music industry. The production process began in September 2023, with several BCA-assisted villages serving as filming locations.
“We are honored to support PP Muhammadiyah and PT Mix Production in bringing the life story of Djuanda Kartawidjaja to the big screen in an epic film. As a national banking institution, BCA is deeply committed to preserving the nation’s cultural and historical heritage, ensuring that the legacy of our heroes who fought for Indonesia’s independence remains alive in every generation. We hope this film will not only serve as entertainment but also as a source of inspiration and a reminder of the importance of national spirit and love for Indonesia,” Hera concluded.
In addition to supporting the launch of Djuanda Pemersatu Laut Indonesia, BCA has also demonstrated its commitment to cultural preservation through its sustainable development program ‘Bakti BCA’, particularly in the Bakti Budaya (culture) pillar. Various initiatives have been carried out, such as Wayang for Students, Nusantara Academic Writing Award (NAWA), Satu dalam Cita 'Sudamala', and Gebyar BCA Merah Putih, which was held last August.
“Every member of Muhammadiyah should recognize that Djuanda was not only a dedicated Muhammadiyah cadre and educator but also a national figure who unified Indonesia’s seas through the Djuanda Declaration,” said PP Muhammadiyah Chairman Irwan Akib.
