Cianjur, 26 October 2024 - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) continued its commitment to reducing cataract-induced blindness in Indonesia by organizing a cataract surgery social service at RSUD Sayang, Cianjur, on Saturday (26/10). In collaboration with the Cataract Blindness Management Section of the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (SPBK PERDAMI), this initiative aimed to treat 300 individuals from Cianjur City and its surrounding areas.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Secretary of the Cianjur Regency Health Office Dr. Cecep Juhana, Deputy Director of Education & Quality Development at RSUD Sayang Cianjur Regency Dr. Sanny Sanjaya, Treasurer of SPBK PERDAMI Dr. Rio Rhendy, and Chief Operating Officer of BCA Main Branch in Cianjur Pierdijono Hartono.
BCA Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility EVP Hera F. Haryn said, “Through Bakti Kesehatan, BCA has been committed to supporting the government's efforts to reduce the prevalence of cataracts, as this condition remains one of the leading causes of visual impairment in Indonesia. In the process, we always work together with SPBK PERDAMI to organize cataract surgery social service programs. This time, we organized a social service in Cianjur, to give hope to the local community to maintain their health, remain productive, and continue to actively contribute to society.”
BCA's cataract surgery social service in Cianjur begins with a screening agenda to check the physical readiness of patients, followed by surgery for patients who meet the criteria, and ends with post-operative control to ensure optimal recovery. The high demand for cataract surgery in the city has made Cianjur one of the cities BCA has chosen to organize its cataract social service.
The cataract surgery social service program has been routinely conducted by BCA since 2001 across nearly all regions of Indonesia. By the end of 2023, Bakti BCA's cataract surgery program had benefited more than 8,100 patients. Additionally, from early 2024 to the present, over 650 patients have experienced improved vision after undergoing cataract surgery organized by BCA and SPBK PERDAMI at six locations, namely:
- Namrole, Maluku
- Banda Neira, Maluku
- Pasangkayu, Sulawesi Barat
- Bengkulu Tengah, Bengkulu
- Kota Banjar, Jawa Barat
- Labuan Bajo, Nusa Tenggara Timur
In addition to regularly organizing cataract surgeries, BCA also proactively provides support by providing cataract surgery equipment to support SPBK PERDAMI, as well as several PERDAMI branches. Through strong collaboration with SPBK PERDAMI, the cataract surgery social service program is expected to carry out procedures by utilizing technology, minimizing risks and maximizing positive outcomes.

This approach aims to foster self-reliant and healthy individuals who can contribute to their communities and support sustainable development.
